BONERAMA – the final act to finish out the Fall portion of the Houston Sound Concert series at Market Square Park will be traveling all the way from their native town of New Orleans. The aptly-titled band struts on stage with a four trombone front line, and is backed by bass, drums and a guitar. Rolling Stone proclaimed Bonerama to be “the ultimate in brass balls” (2005) and praised for their “…crushing ensemble riffing, human-feedback shrieks and wah-wah growls.”
Developed purely out of the club scene of New Orleans, Bonerama follows in the footsteps of bands like The Dirty Dozen Brass Band where there is no limit on what a brass band can do with a few extra tools added to the kit. Bonerama will be quickly returning home to New Orleans where they will perform at The Voodoo Music Experience on Sunday, which boasts headliners with the likes of Soundgarden, Snoop Dogg, The Raconteurs, Fatboy Slim, Girl Talk and a whole lot more. Come down to Market Square Park this Friday, October 28th to see what live music is all about.

The John Evans Band will be next on the schedule to play the Houston Sound Concert Series at Market Square Park this Friday, October 21st. Ask John Evans what kind of music his band plays and he’ll respond, “It’s just rock and roll.” A diminutive answer for a band that has won a streak of awards from the Houston Press consecutive years for Musician of the Year, Best Male Vocalist and Best Songwriters amongst others. Come out to Market Square Park in downtown Houston (Milam and Congress St.) and find out why John Evans Band keeps winning awards.

Come downtown to Market Square Park to celebrate the 3rd annual block party with special guest the Jitterbug Vipers!
The Jitterbug Vipers were scheduled to perform at last year’s series, but were unfortunately replaced by a downpour of rain. We welcome them back to Market Square Park for their appearance at A Night at Market Square Park as the live entertainment for the evening. A rare mixture of 30′s era swing and jazz, the Jitterbug Vipers bring a unique sound to echo off the buildings of downtown Houston. Their music may best be described by the etymology of their name:
Jitterbug ~ Another name for the Lindy Hop or swing dancing. Jitterbug music is the very danceable music from the 30s & 40s.
Vipers ~ Viper music is a special kind of swing music from the 30s & 40s which was played and sung by Ella Fitzgerald, Nat King Cole, Benny Goodman, Duke Ellington, Cab Calloway, and Louis Jordan.

Find out more information for the night’s activities below:

Back for Fall, the Houston Sound Concert Series at Market Square Park is announcing the full lineup!
Already having kicked off the season last Friday, Larry Sepulvado and Buxton were the first out of the gate to perform at Market Square Park. Larry Sepulvado, father to Buxton’s Austin Sepulvado, started the night off with his band’s own mixture of country, blues and zydeco. Shortly after, Buxton took to the stage with a park filled with spectators and many of Houston’s rock celebrities; their performance marked an early kickoff to their upcoming tour of the East Coast.

Visiting from Austin will be the Jitterbug Vipers this Saturday, October 15th, for A Night at Market Square Park.
Self-described as “…being a jitterbug, viper, swing, show band, we are the original and only trippy-swingadelic 1930′s rock band on Planet Earth.” Come out to the park for A Night at Market Square Park to make up for the words that can’t describe the Jitterbug Vipers.
Saturday, October 15 will be the 3rd annual A Night at Market Square Park block party! Explore historic downtown by joining your friends and neighbors and sampling bites and beverages from the area’s diverse assortment of eclectic bars and restaurants.

Don’t miss Glow ‘N Go Illuminated Art Car Parade, Saint Arnold Beer Garden, Heritage Texas Properties Open House- register to win fabulous prizes! Georgia’s Market Downtown sneak peek, Gallery Two1Four exhibit: Functional Art. Functional Parts. Public Parks. and Kitchen Incubator’s edible market.
Joining the series for a second performance, we are welcoming back John Evans Band.
If you aren’t familiar with John Evans, he and his band come with music born on the bayous of Houston and injected with influences from the Mississippi Delta to Bakersfield to the boroughs of New York City. John Evans and his Rockabilly Band have taken over his hometown (and the whole Lone Star State!) by dominating the Houston Press Music Awards over the last decade. John can boast six wins for Best Male Vocalist, four for Best Songwriter and a pair for both Best Roots Rock and Musician of the Year.

Finishing off the Fall season will be – from New Orleans – BONERAMA. When Bonerama struts onstage with its four-trombone frontline, you can guess it’s not quite like any rock ’n’ roll band you’ve seen. When they tear into some vintage New Orleans funk, there’s no questioning from which city these guys hail. And when those ‘bones start ripping into Hendrix and Led Zeppelin licks, all stylistic bets are off.
Dates of each performance are:
October 7th – Larry Sepulvado and Buxton
October 15th – Jitterbug Vipers
October 21st – John Evans Band
October 28th – Bonerama
You may also find the shows on our upcoming shows section of the website. More information on the series and other activities can be found at Market Square Park’s website. You may also follow Market Square Park at Facebook and on Twitter @MarketSquarePrk.

We would like to thank everyone that came out last show with Benjamin Wesley and MoTel Aviv. Benjamin kicked off the night howling into the mic “I’m awesome!” We agreed.
MoTel continued the show with their electrifying performance of 80′s inspired dance rock with some modern polishing touches that brought the crowd to its feet. They also had a nice surprise of the first batch of CDs of their debut album, Post-Modern Nation, available for us to sample.
We look forward to seeing and hearing more from both artists.
